Small business is a competitive world. Most of us operate on the assumption that the shop down the street is out to steal our business.
The Intuit Small Business Blog had an interesting piece, however, about how a couple of small businesses in Rockford, Illinois decided to collaborate instead of compete. Several boutique owners got together to explore collaborative marketing efforts, including a boutique crawl.
One of the ways this group worked together was by identifying common customer groups – in this case, the businesses were primarily female-owned catering to women – and creating cross-promotional efforts.
