Should You Date Your Customers?

Seth Godin is one of those marketers you either love or hate. The Inc.com blog took a look at one of Godin’s recent ideas: dating your customer. According to Godin, marketing comes down to three basic ideas:

  • Getting permission to market to your prospects. Dating is about two interested parties.
  • Promoting the idea of group and community (Godin uses the word “tribe” here). Relationships don’t happen in a vacuum.
  • Realizing that in marketing, as with relationships, there will be failure.

As always, Godin offers an interesting analogy and a unique perspective on the whole customer-marketer relationship.
