How Do You Handle Sensitive Customer Data?

Protecting customer data should be a concern of any small business. Depending on your field, there might be significant rules and regulations regarding how you handle customer data, as well.

The Intuit Small Business blog had a post last week that raises more questions than it gives answers. For example, when you’re in small business and you handle a customer’s credit card information, there is an implicit trust that the information won’t be misused. But, when you’re not available to handle the information, how do you train employees and protect your business so that, if there’s a mistake or misuse, everyone is protected?

It raises several issues for thought, from employee trustworthiness to credit card policies to liability insurance and more.
